West Cary Show Choir
Show Choir = Concert Chorus
The student's schedule will actually say Concert Chorus but this is truly show choir.
This is a year long course open to 7th and 8th graders who love to sing and dance and who are willing to commit to the high energy and responsibility associated with a performance group of this genre. In Show Choir vocal techniques and music reading are emphasized while students are both singing and performing choreography to a variety of musical styles from classical to contemporary spanning a number of cultures. Students will also contribute to the creation of some of the choreography.
The Show Choir performs at a number of events throughout the year such as "Pieces of Gold" (Wake County School's performing arts showcase), the Durham Bulls, school activities and evening concerts...therefore students should anticipate some after-school practices and evening performances.
Show Choir members will purchase a West Cary Show Choir polo shirt that will be worn for some of the performances. Other outfits will be determined by performance needs. Students also have the option of purchasing a West Cary Fine Arts sweatshirt.
Music Exploratory is a 6th grade elective that gives students an introduction to performance and what they can expect in Show Choir. Students will learn music from different genres and cultures. Another class that may also assist aspiring performers is Intro to Theatre.
